A single dad walked 11 miles daily to get to his 4 a.m. shift for 7 months but when his co-workers found out they surprised him in a big way.
21-year-old Trenton Lewis suffered leg pain as a result of the daily pre-dawn walks to get to work. Yet he told no one of his sufferings as he walked diligently for 7 long months to provide for his 14-month-old daughter, Karmen.
"My pride is strong," Trenton told CNN. "Whatever she needs, I'm the person who is supposed to provide it for her."
But his co-workers at a UPS facility in Little Rock, Arkansas, found out. And last week, they decided to turn his life around. They asked Lewis to come to a brief union meeting. When he showed up, disbelief was clearly written all over his face and he wore a grateful smile as his coworkers handed him keys to a new car.

"I was emotionally moved. My heart just fell," Lewis recalled.
His colleagues found out he had been trekking when a staff, who seems to know and see all, got curious and began paying attention to him. Patricia "Mama Pat" Bryant, who Lewis says is like a second mum, got upset with Lewis when she found out he walks to work. Bryant who has put in almost 40 years at UPS together with her husband, Kenneth, then shared Lewis' story with her fellow workers and took up a collection to buy their determined colleague a car.
Kenneth Bryant said: "For a young person to decide in their mind 'if I don't have a ride, if I can't get a ride then I'll walk'. If a guy can do that, we can pitch in to help."
The group soon raised almost $2,000 with which they bought a 2006 Saturn Ion. Lewis' first ride in the car was to pick up his daughter for a bite to eat.

On Valentine's day, while people were spending time with their loved ones, one man cut a heartbreaking figure as he sat alone dining in a restaurant with his late wife's ash.
Chasidy Gwaltney was in a restaurant in Corpus Christi, Texas, when she saw an elderly gentleman sitting at a table by himself. He had his head in his hands as he sat in a booth set for two with a card propped on the table in front of him. On the other side of the table was his wife's ashes.

Chasidy was so moved by what she saw that she shared it on social media to point out how important it is to not take our loved ones for granted. A lot of people could relate to the photo and expressed how it had affected them too.

Police arrest former NURTW chairman and a notorious assassin who he paid N1.5m to kill for him

The police has arrested the former chairman of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Rafiu Olohunwa Akanni, a notorious assassin, Adeola Williams a.k.a Ade lawyer and other suspects in the murder of Ganiyu Ayinla, a former member of the NURTW and personal assistant to Kunle Poly, Chairman NURTW, Idumota branch.

Ganiyu Aliyu was assassinated on 23rd January 2018 by gunmen who had been contracted to kill his boss, Kunle Poly, who fortunately escaped.

Speaking to the press, Commissioner of police, Imohimi Edgal said that after investigations carried out by the IGP intelligence Response team, led by ICP, Abba Kyari and the Technical Intelligence Unit of the Nigerian police, Mr. Adeola Williams, 39, an indigene of Isasi Village in Ijebu Ode Local Government Area of Ogun State who was said to have been on the most wanted list of the police for over five years was nabbed in his newly rented house in Akure, Ondo State.
During interrogations, he confessed that he was contracted by Mr. Rafiu Olohunwa Akanni, a former chairman of NURTW to kill Mr. Kunle Poly. He also revealed that they agreed on N1.5 million and he was paid N500,000 upfront.
After the operation, Adeola went back to collect the balance of N1million but Mr. Akanni refused to pay him stating that he didn't kill the target.
Mr. Adeola got angry and seized Hyundai Santafee SUV belonging to Mr. Akanni. He insisted that his balance is paid before he returns the SUV.
Speaking about his past victims, Adeola Williams confessed that he has been contracted to kill so many people including; Hamburger, an NURTW chairman in Oshodi.  Baba Jide Dosumu, aka Mados.

 “I assassinated the popular Hamburger, an NURTW chairman in Oshodi. I also killed one Baba Jide Dosumu, aka Mados in Ebute Meta, Lagos. One Salawe in Ajah, Ganiyu Asaro and four others in Badore area of Lagos after I sprayed bullets into their car, killing all the five occupants.” He siad

Transgender woman able to breastfeed her baby after hospital induces lactation

A transgender woman was able to breast-feed her baby in the the first recorded case of its kind.
After the 30 year old who was born male, informed doctors in New York that she wanted to breast-feed her pregnant partner’s baby, they put her on a regimen of drugs that included an anti-nausea medication licensed in Britain and Canada but banned in the United States.
According to the journal, Transgender Health, two weeks before the baby’s due date, she had increased her production to eight ounces of milk a day.
In the end, the study showed, “she was able to achieve sufficient breast milk volume to be the sole source of nourishment for her child for six weeks,”
The woman had been on hormone replacement therapy for six years, but had not gender reassignment surgery, when she approached doctors with the aim of breastfeeding the child.
Before the baby was born, doctors put her on a three-and-a-half-month course of treatment to help her artificially produce milk, usually given to women who have adopted babies or who have them via surrogates.
This included breast pumping, taking hormones produced by biological mothers, a drug which can stimulate milk production and a male hormone blocker.
As a result, the woman was able to produce a "modest but functional" amount of breast milk - some 8oz a day.
Researchers said this was the baby's only source of nutrition for its first six weeks, during which time her growth, feeding and bowel habits were "developmentally appropriate".
After this, the baby also started having formula milk because not enough breast milk was being produced.
The baby is now six months old and she continues to be breastfed as part of her diet, the study's authors said.
Dr Channa Jayasena, a senior lecturer at Imperial College who specialises in reproductive endocrinology, said the research was an "exciting development".
He said he had heard of a few cases in the UK of transgender women being helped to breastfeed, but until now no report has been published.
Dr Jayasena added: "What we really need to do is pool together these cases and share our knowledge, to find the best recipe for breastfeeding in these patients without exposing them to any health risks."
The researchers said it was not clear whether all of the medications used in the woman's treatment were necessary to achieve lactation.
They said further investigation was needed to determine the optimal treatment for transgender women wishing to breastfeed.

Arrested Boko Haram commander says Abubakar Shekau is currently in Cameroun

One of the Boko Haram commanders, Abdullahi Bello, who was arrested by the Nigerian Army on February 14th, says the wanted factional leader of the sect, Abubakar Shekau, has escaped to Kolofata in neighbouring Cameroun.

Bello was one of the sect’s commanders forced out of Sambisa Forest by the clear out offensive of military troops involved in Operation Deep Punch 11. He confessed to the Military that the intensity of the offensive has forced numerous Boko Haram commanders to flee their hideouts.

The Nigerian military two days ago announced that Shekau now disguises as a woman and is currently on the run. Yesterday the Military announced a N3million reward for anyone that will come forward with information that will help towards the arrest of Shekau.

The toddler signed a major deal with Air Jordan to launch the brand's first kids collection 'Jordan x Asahd' at the Rookie USA Fashion Show held in Hollywood on Thursday night.
The latest fashion designer also made the runaway in the company of his mother Nicole Tuck and his dad, who wore matching tracksuits with him.

According to Khaled’s caption in an IG post, the collection will include a range of colorful and sporty tops, bottoms, hats, and socks that bring out the style of Asahd through the lens of the Jordan brand.
Ashad's collection of items will be targeting kids with sizes 0-20, whose parents will have to pay $25-$100 for the limited edition items.

Higher institutions in Nasarawa State begin indefinite strike

The Joint Union of Tertiary Institutions (JUTI), Nasarawa State Chapter today embarked on an indefinite strike following the state government’s failure to meet their demands on welfare issues.

The Chairman, Samuel Bashayi made this disclosure in a statement in Lafia.  Bashayi, who is also the Chairman of the College of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), Akwanga Chapter, said the institutions involved in the strike are: College of Education Akwanga (COEA), College of Agriculture Lafia and Nasarawa State Polytechnic, Lafia.

He said that the decision to embark on the strike was taken at the union’s state executive council meeting held at the state polytechnic, Lafia on Thursday.

“The strike followed the insensitivity of the state government to the plights of the affected institutions. The government has also failed to actively address the issues raised in the agreement reached between the union and the government,“ he said.

Bashayi added that in spite of repeated notices served on the government nothing was done to address our demands, hence the need to deploy the only option left to the union. He said that the strike was aimed at pressing home the union`s demands on the issues of workers promotion, annual increment, arrears, among other.  “We will go ahead with the strike since the government had refused to implement all outstanding promotions of workers in spite of the ultimatum. The union had given the state government enough time to put everything in proper perspective, but yet the government is playing politics with the issue,” he said.
