Nigerian woman shares touching story as she celebrates her housemaid of 13 years on her Matriculation
Gloria Ernest Samuel, took to Facebook on Wednesday, March 14, to celebrate her housemaid of 13 years, who recently gained admission into a higher institution. Read her post below...
I am proud of us...
On 17th February, 2005, my husband brought her home as my house help. She was smaller than l wanted. I needed a much bigger girl, but the mum could only allow her as the elder sister was elsewhere. The only option was to manage her, but managing meant that l had to nurse her as she was too small to even wash her own clothes, the breakable kitchenwares etc.
It wasn't also easy to raise a child with certain orientations.
But l tried. When the task became too tedious,
I packaged her home, but the father gave us a mind boggling question: if she is your daughter, will you throw her away? Please, train her as yours. I want her different.
As stunning as that question sounded, l thank God that l took that challenge seriously and to my heart.
I teach, I scream, I plead, l appeal and l advice...
To make sure she turns out better than she would.
Sometimes, she makes me furious, laugh, cry, and  proud, just like now.
From Primary 2, she had gone through to secondary, made her papers, have trained on computer literacy before going for skill acquisition.
Today, she has moved to a higher level. She is matriculating at Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education, and l am so happy that our 13years  together is not a waste after all.
She has long ceased to be a maid in my home.
She is now Aunty's Auntie, my little sister, my children's Auntie. And no one knows she is not my sibling.
Uchechi, today is the beginning of a new life for you.
We are happy for you. Sky is your jumping pad.
We pray that you graduate with flying colours. And we continue to pray for financial breakthrough so that you do not suffer any stress concerning your education.
Congratulations, dear. We are super proud of you.

Youth leader,?Udeme Akpan?shot dead by suspected cultist In Akwa-Ibom
Days after the state government outlawed activities of no fewer than 33 cult groups in Akwa Ibom State, suspected militants of the Icelaand group have shot dead one Udeme Daniel Akpan.

Until his gruesome murder early yesterday morning, the deceased, father of three, was the youth leader of Ikot Edet community in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area. It was gathered, the deceased who was at the forefront of fighting the cult menace in his community, was served a notice to pay some undisclosed amount to the militants or risked being killed.

According to family sources, “he had to escape to the neighbouring community of Ibio Nnung Achat, where he remained as a fugitive until the militants obtained information through their network and mobilised to kill him”. “In fact, the shooting this morning was so heavy that Policemen stationed at Ibio Nnung Achat, had to scamper for safety”, he explained and called on government to deploy soldiers to the area as local residents have begun to flee the area in droves.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Odiko Macdon Ogbeche, expressed surprise, that the action could jeopardise the peace deal the government, security agencies and stakeholders were trying to broker for the militants to drop their arms. He assured that the security agencies would have no other option to declare mass Police action in order to dislodge the hoodlums, while mopping up small arms and light weapons in the affected communities.

Hairstylist remanded in Kirikiri prison for biting a policeman
On Thursday, an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court remanded a 23-year-old hair stylist, Comfort Ishukwu, who allegedly assaulted a policeman, in Kirikiri Prisons, pending when her bail conditions would be met.

The defendant, who resides at No. 1, Orile-Agege, a Lagos suburb, is facing a two-count of breach of peace and assault.  The Prosecutor, Seargent Nomayo Kenrich, had told the court that the defendant committed the offence on January 18, on Orile Road, Agege, Lagos.

According to him, the defendant assaulted one Seargent Okpanachi Nicodemus while he was on duty, by biting him on the left side of his mouth, following a disagreement. The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubeinje, granted Ishukwu a bail of N200,000 with one surety in like sum. She said the surety should be gainfully employed with an evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

Kubeinje adjourned the case until March 21 for hearing.

PoS Innovation Summit 3rd Edition holds in Lagos
The third edition of the Point of Sale (PoS) Innovation Summit, a quarterly event aimed at reinforcing acceptance of PoS as an alternative means of payment in Nigeria, is scheduled to hold at the Wheatbaker Hotel, Ikoyi, Lagos on Tuesday, 27th of March, 2018.
The PoS Innovation summit, which is fast becoming the agenda setting platform for the PoS payment sector, brings together stakeholders in the PoS value chain to discuss and strategize in a bid to explore opportunities and improve service delivery in the PoS business sector of the Nigerian payment system. It is focused on advancing a cashless payment system in the country through insights, shared wisdom and experiences.
The theme for this edition, ‘Deepening Financial Inclusion Through Agency Banking’, will highlight the roles and contributions of agency banking in breaking the financial inclusion challenge, using PoS terminals as a platform.
Keynote speakers and participants that will bring their wealth of experience to bear to chart a way forward in the financial inclusion initiative include Niyi Ajao, Executive Director, Nigeria Interbank Settlement Systems; UzomaNwagba, CEO, Government Enterprise and Empowerment Program, MarketMoni, Bank of Industry; Temitope Akin-Fadeyi, Head, Financial Inclusion, Central Bank of Nigeria; and Tunde Ogungbade, Managing Director, Global Accelerex Ltd.
Majority of Nigerians in rural areas lack access to financial services. Traditional banks are also handicapped in expanding their operations as vast non-urban regions often lack the legacy infrastructure to enable fast deployment of financial products and services. The promotion of agency banking is one of the principles adopted by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and commercial banks to take banking to the grassroots.
Against the backdrop of a large percentage of unbanked adult population in Africa’s developing regions, there is a need for banks to use agents to reach the financially excluded. The CBN’s introduction of agency banking is aimed at connecting rural dwellers to financial services for wider inclusion in the financial net.The PoS terminal has proven to be the most vital tool in the hands of agents and their network in advancing the financial inclusion campaign to the underserved markets.
The PoS Innovation Summit is renowned for its invaluable contributions towards the growth and acceptance of the PoS channel in the nation's fast growing financial industry, increasing efficiency and service delivery of PoS services across the country.

Around 15,000 people were at Cisterna di Latina's Collina dei Pini church in Rome, Italy last Friday for the funeral of Alessia and Martina, two sisters aged eight and 14 who were shot dead by their father last week.

The father, Carabinieri police officer Luigi Capasso, who also took his own life, shot and critically injured his wife Antonietta Gargiulo, the mother of the murdered girls.

Gargiulo is in intensive care and was not able to attend the girls' funeral.
The priest presiding over the funeral was heckled during the service after calling for prayers for the father too.
"Excuse me, but the family has forgiven (him), There has been forgiveness and the family is at peace", the priest said.
"You aren''t Christian if you don't forgive," he continued.

Prince William went by a different name at university to keep a low profile
When Prince William got into University, the press agreed that the Prince who had lived all his life in the spotlight will be given a break and allowed to study away from the spotlight.
But it didn't end there. As there was still a lot of interest in the British heir, he used a different name while he was in university to keep a low profile. The alias he used was Steve.
He officially enrolled at the University of St Andrews under his real name William Wales, but all his classmates used the nickname to prevent any unwanted attention.
Prince William studied history of art before switching to geography. In June 2005, at the age of 23, he graduated alongside Kate Middleton, his girlfriend at the time and now his wife.

NSCDC arrests school teacher for writing JAMB for his brother in Abuja
Timothy Samuel, a school teacher has been arrested by officers of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in the Gwagwalada area of Abuja for impersonating his sibling, Samson Samuel, in the ongoing 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.

The school teacher was reportedly caught at the Air Mass Computer Institute in the Madalla area of Niger State by a team comprising operatives of the NSCDC and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board. It was gathered that Timothy’s mother had persuaded him to sit the examination on behalf of his brother, who had taken ill.

The JAMB Supervisor at the Madalla Computer-Based Test Centre, Sakina Tafida, said the suspect evaded screening and sneaked into the examination hall.

“We, however, found that the number of exam slips that we collected after the fingerprint screening was less than the number of candidates in the hall. He actually skipped the fingerprint device and the photograph on the slip he gave us later was that of his brother, Samson,” Tafida said.

The JAMB Registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, who confirmed the arrest, said the mother of the two children was to blame.  He said, “Parents need to disassociate themselves from this shameful attitude. It is against any type of parenting that you want to inculcate the spirit of deceit into your children.”

Pastor Adeboye visits Benue State, says  ‘we want these killings to stop’

Pastor Adeboye visits Benue State, says???we want these killings to stop?
Pastor Adeboye, the General Overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has called for an end to the killing in Benue State and other parts of the country by suspected herdsmen.

The cleric made the call today when he alongside his wife, Folu, paid a visit to the Benue State.  Adeboye believes only God, however, can stop the killings and give the people victory over the ‘battle’.

“We want these killings to stop. Happily, we know someone who can stop it, He is the Almighty God, He does not fail nor compromise, He is the God of all. We will continue to call on Him to fight this battle and you can be assured that victory will be certain,” he said. He also prayed for the people, saying Benue State is very dear to him.  He explained that he did not visit the state earlier before President Muhammadu Buhari visited, to avoid politicising the incident.

He said, “Benue state is very very close to my heart, I had felt every pain you people felt and I wept when I saw you weeping. No man of God will see a mass burial anywhere and not feel the pains of the people affected.”

Governor Samuel Ortom appealed to the church to continue praying for the government and people of the state adding that the crisis posed a great challenge to the wellbeing of the people of the state.
