Lagos state Police warns citizens planning to protest Land Use Charge not to compromise the peace in Lagos State
The Lagos state police command has warned groups who plan to protest the Land Use Charge on the streets of Lagos to desist from compromising the peace of Lagos state.
In a statement signed by the Police PRO, SP Chike Oti, the command stated that they haven't received any formal applications from any groups that plan to protest and has revealed that they won't let the peace of Lagos state be compromised.

The attention of Lagos State Police Command has been drawn to the news making the rounds that a  group of persons under the sponsorship of  some mischief makers, and who are   masquerading as civil rights activists, intends to block the Third Mainland Bridge and  occupy some critical public infrastructures in Lagos to protest the increase in the Land Use Charge by the government of Lagos state.
The Command wishes to warn those concerned that any attempt by any individual or group of persons to cause a breach of the  peace or infringe on the rights of others to pursue their daily aspirations, would be met with stiff resistance.
As it stands, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State has not received a single  application from any group wishing to carry out protest in any part of the state. It is therefore advised that these individuals wanting to protest government decision should consult with the police as it was the case with the Nigeria Bar Association before they carried out their very peaceful  protest for which the police provided the needed security and ensured it was not hijacked by hoodlums.
Once again,  the Command wishes to reiterate that it would not allow any group of protesters to compromise the peace in Lagos State in whatever guise. Any group of persons that feel strongly against any policies of the government should explore the judiciary option instead of endangering the public peace.

Breaking News: Federal High Court slams Runtown with an Interim injunction over breach of contract (Photos)
For the second time in 2-years, Eric Many, the record label that signed Nigerian popstar, Runtown has filed an injunction at a Federal High court against the singer for breach of contract.

The entertainment company served Runtown the court papers a few days back with Suit No: FHC/L/CS/267/2018 with a statement that partly reads, 'Runtown has been deliberately breaching his contract with us (Eric Many) for a while and despite our many appeals to him he has refused to bulge. He went for a show in Las Vegas since January 13th, 2018 and has since decided to withdraw all obligations of his contract. He has steadily been recording an album without the consent and approval of his record label'.

According to the statement of claim filed at the Federal High Court, by Eric Many, "a Recording Agreement was made between the Plaintiff and the Defendant dated 22nd June 2016, the copyright and other intellectual property and cognate rights and legal positions and protections applicable to all works done by the Defendant during an initial period of two years covered by the Agreement, is vested in the Plaintiff. The Plaintiff will rely on a copy of the said Recording Agreement at trial. 7. Under the Agreement, parties recognize and acknowledge the sum of N114,456,670.00 (One Hundred and Fourteen Million, Four Hundredand Fifty Six Thousand,Six Hundred and Seventy Naira) as "Prior Investment", representing the sum invested by the Plaintiff into the development of the Defendant's musical works and records under the defunct 'Artiste Agreement', precursor to the 'Recording Agreement".

In a press statement issued this morning, the label also states that, "he's recording with artists like Del B without the written approval of the label and without an Eric Many appointee at the point of recording as agreed in our contract. Runtown has also been appearing in venues and collecting appearance fees without the approval of the label and also performing in private shows without the label's consent which contravenes clause 4.4.1 of  his record deal which states that 'the Defendant(Runtown) can only engage in recording, collaborating or performing with other artistes for third parties or other record companies upon proper notification in advance to the Plaintiff. Upon this notification, the Plaintiff would then enter into an agreement with the collaborating artiste or his record company to ensure that the Plaintiff and the Defendant receive proper credit, legal/copyright protection and compensation for the collaborative work".

Though Runtown's record deal with Eric Many is due to expire at some point this year, the label says he still owes the company alot of money including, 'Hundreds of millions in Naira from the Lamborghini Gallardo super-fast car which he still has to pay back to the label and and also an album that must be released through the right channels. He has been doing numerous collaborations with several artists without getting the written approval of the label and as a result, no royalties have come back to the label from any of these collaborations. He has been warned severally about this on numerous occasions but he refused to listen, so we as the label had to go to court to stop him from these dubious actions'.

The label also confirms sacking his current manager, Ifeanyi Nwunne saying, 'Eric Many has also fired Ifeanyi Nwunne as Runtown's manager. He is more of a drug addict that smokes marijuana round the clock. A new manager will be appointed soonest'.

Eric Many in its statement of claim is seeking the sum of "N65 MILLION being General Damages against the Defendant (Runtown) in favour of the Plaintiff for infringement of the Plaintiff's copyright to the collaborative musical works "Call Me" and "Weekend" both of which featured the Defendant as well as N5 MILLION as costs of this action".

"Eric Many has chosen to hold back on anything pertaining to Runtown, till further investigations. This means that anyone who engages Runtown without a written approval from Eric Many, signed by the chairman, will be sued heavily.

This will be the second time in two years that Runtown has had to face off with his label. In May 2016,  he was sued in the Federal High Court by Eric Many on allegations that he signs up, concludes and attends musical shows without the knowledge of the label. Back then, Eric Many also secured a court injunction stopping Runtown from performing as an artiste anywhere in the world. He later went back to the label to apologize and the case was settled out of court

Indian billionaire and jeweler, Nirav Modi?in trouble over his connection with the country?s biggest-ever bank fraud of 1.8 billion U.S. dollars
Indian authorities have seized a solar power plant and over 134 acres of land belonging to billionaire jeweller Nirav Modi in connection with the country’s biggest-ever bank fraud of 1.8 billion U.S. dollars.

“The Enforcement Directorate took possession of the land and solar power plant in Ahmednagar in western India Sunday. Earlier, it attached 21 immovable properties worth 5.24 billion rupees belonging to the jeweller and his companies,” a senior official said today.

Indian authorities have already sought Interpol’s help to track down Modi and and his uncle and business partner Mehul Choksi in connection with the bank fraud.  India’s External Affairs Ministry has also revoked their passports.

Modi is said to have defrauded Punjab National Bank, India’s second largest state-run bank, of 1.8 billion dollars, though he has said that he owed the bank only 775 million dollars, in a letter sent to the bank’s management. Indian investigators have so far arrested nearly 20 people, including some senior executives of companies owned by Modi and Choksi as well as high-ranking officials of state-owned Punjab National Bank, in the fraud probe.

However, they have not yet been able to arrest him and his uncle. The celebrity jeweller is said to have fled the country and was reportedly last seen in New York after his appearance at World Economic Forum in Davos as a member of the Indian delegation.

United Nations withdraws 108 Nigerian peace-keeping police officers?in Liberia after 5-years
The last batch of 108 Nigerian police officers has been withdrawn from the UN Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) after five years of service.

UNMIL said the remaining 108 Nigerian FPU officers, the last UNMIL uniformed contingent remaining in Liberia, withdrew as part of the UN mission’s termination.

The batch of 200 Nigerian peacekeepers withdrew from Liberia in February as part of the termination of the mission’s mandate, scheduled on March 30, the mission said.

“The Nigerian contingent has been deployed in Liberia since UNMIL was first established in 2003. Nigeria has been a main contributor of military and police to UNMIL.

“The United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) has been a steadfast partner to Liberia for the last 15 years. It has supported security and security sector reform, rule of law, efforts to disarm, human rights and sustainable peace. The Mission will complete its mandate on 30 March 2018. UNMIL was established in September 2003 with 16,475 uniformed personnel to monitor a ceasefire agreement in Liberia, following the conclusion of the Second Liberian Civil War”.

An official farewell ceremony was held in February in honour of the last departing 689 uniformed personnel 404 military and 285 police personnel who had served with the Mission. This symbolised the end of UNMIL’s military and police operations in Liberia, more than 14 years after UNMIL was deployed in compliance with Security Council resolution 1509 (2003).

Nigeria’s Maj.-Gen. Salihu Uba is the Force Commander and Head of UNMIL’s Military component of men and women from various countries, including Nigeria, Pakistan and Ukraine. Uba was Commander of the Training and Doctrine Command of the Nigerian Army before his appointment as the Force Commander for UNMIL by the former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Jan. 9, 2015.

The Formed Police Unit composed of Nigerian and Chinese personnel and since 2003, 61 contingents from various countries had served in Liberia, UNMIL said. According to Uba, the mission’s uniform component military and police have taken greater stride towards strengthening peace and security, rule of law, governance among others in Liberia.

The Force Commander stated that it was not all roses particularly for the military which had the highest fatalities of 138 personnel while the police lost 21 persons.  “As we are closing, the memory of those 159 persons and others in the Mission will continue to live in our minds.  “We will continue to pay special tribute to them and those who contributed to peace and security in Liberia” the Major General said. The Force Commander, on behalf of the Police Commissioner Simon Blatchly, expressed their profound appreciation to the uniformed component of UNSMIL.

The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Farid Zarif, had in his speech, stated that the farewell signified an important benchmark in the history of the UN in West Africa.  “While my colleagues in uniform are writing the last pages of the peacekeeping operations here, Liberians and their Leaders have started writing the first pages of a brand new chapter in their history.”

Liberian President George Weah commended UNMIL for its longstanding support to peace and stability, saying the Liberian people will forever remain grateful to them for their bravery and service.  Weah said: “Thank you for your hard work and sacrifice you have made over the years to keep the peace and stability of our beloved mama Liberia. As you leave us now, we will forever remember you”.
