Lady succeeded in defrauding her best friend and another woman of N4.7m by impersonating non existent people
A lady identified as Bose Bamidele, 30, is currently under investigations after she was accused of defrauding her best friend, Glory Etuk of N1m and one Ms. Abimbola of N3.7m.
Ms. Abimbola allegedly succeeded in defrauding her victims by pretending to be other people on the phone.
According to Punch, Bamidele met Abimbola in 2016 after the later rented an apartment in Anthony area of Lagos state. They became close soon after.
As the friendship grew, Abimbola invented a character, Dapo Awosika, whom she said just returned from the United States and could make a good suitor for Abimbola. She succeeded in defrauding Abimbola of N3.7m.
Abimbola revealed that she took Bamidele as her sister and is still shocked that she is the one behind the scam.
“I met her in 2016 when I rented a new apartment at Anthony. She worked as the manager of a cleaner’s on my street and I patronised the shop. She told me that she needed help and that her children and husband had died. I pitied her and shared everything I had with her.
“Last year, she said her late husband’s family usually performed a ritual whenever a person died in their family and that they would bring the person’s spirit back to life to give information about his fortunes. Later, she said her late husband had spoken and he said he had a house on Banana Island. She said she was worth billions of naira and needed some money to clear some of the property. I gave her some money.
“We were more than friends; we were sisters. In September 2017, she introduced me to one Dapo Awosika, whom she said was her late husband’s friend. I talked to the man on the telephone. She was the intermediary and sometimes gave me the guy’s message.”
Bamidele later approached her on behalf of Awosika, saying that his mother was sick at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Oyo State, and he needed her Toyota Corolla to move around. She gave them the car only to find Bamidele posing with the car on Facebook.
“While we were on this, she said the man needed money to treat the sick mother because he could not access his money in the US. She sent me three account numbers and I sent money in three tranches that totalled about N3.7m,” she added.
Abimbola realized that something was definitely wrong after she saw Bamidele celebrating her daughter on Facebook after telling her that she lost all her children.
When some investigations were done, she found out that the account number of the doctor from UCH actually belongs to a person based in Lagos.
She also found out that her online boyfriend, Awosika, the supposed sick mother, and other persons she spoke with, never existed and the suspect only invented them to defraud her of the money and her car.
“She bears seven names, including Stella, Lucy, Richie and Awuwa. She is Dapo (Awosika) and Dapo’s sister, Modinat, who called me on the telephone and said I should be patient about my car. The police recovered the car at Ladipo market where it was put up for sale. While I was in shock at the police station, a woman called her telephone line and a policeman picked the call. The caller said she wanted to speak with Mummy Elizabeth who lives in Abuja. That was when we knew I was not the only one she had been defrauding,” Abimbola said.
The second victim, Etuk, revealed that she met Bamidele in 2014 at a cleaner’s owned by her ex-boyfriend.
They lost contact but met again in 2016 and the suspect claimed to be in dire need of accommodation.
“I had a shop in Surulere where I sold artificial hair. I asked her if she could squat there and she said yes. So, I partitioned the shop because of her and she started living there. I took her as my sister and loved her more than my blood. I talked to her dad, sister and two of her uncles –Uncle Joe and Brother Dapo.
I never knew what was happening until last Friday, when I could not reach her on th

Taxes on Tobacco and alcohol should be increased and used to fund health budget - Health minister, Isaac Adewole says
Taxes on Tobacco and alcohol should be increased and used to fund health budget - Health minister, Isaac Adewole says
Speaking on Tuesday at THISDAY healthcare financing policy dialogue in Abuja, Adewole said Nigeria has the lowest health budget in the world. He said health financing in Nigeria is mostly from out-of-pocket spending. Out-of-pocket spendings are costs incurred on health care services that are not reimbursed by insurance.
The minister said: “as a result, OOP spending accounts for 75.2 percent of total health expenditure among the highest in the world and 25 percent of households spend more than 10 percent of their household consumption health; a sign that more people are prone to poverty traps if they fall ill, for a country of our size. This is not acceptable. In the issue of tax rate, 5 percent, our value added tax is one of the lowest in the world and there are opportunities to expand this by increasing taxes on the consumption of harmful products such as alcohol and tobacco. In particular, our tobacco excise rates of 20 percent are well below the 75 percent World Health Organisation benchmark.”
Adewole urged states to invest in the health sector rather than allow the federal government shoulder the responsibility alone. He said: “This is my third year as a minister. When there’s disease outbreak in Calabar, there is diarrhoea in Kano, they say it’s the minister of health’s problem. Where are the commissioners of health? We should not assume that they do not have any role to play and everything is on the federal ministry of health; that is wrong. “The states have a role to play, they have responsibilities, there are people in those states who need to be taken care of. But everything is for the federal government to resolve".
He added that. "maybe, when oil prices were high and there was a lot of money, the federal government could take on everything. The states are not improving their health workforce; they are not employing nurses, they are not employing doctors, they are not even paying their salaries. At the state level, a consultant in the state earns close to what the most junior doctor at the federal level will earn. That is where we have a problem. So, we need to work together.”

A mother last Saturday, bid a sad farewell to her three children burned to death by her boyfriend in Hammanskraal, South Africa.
Bogosi Musana (12), Omphile Musana (4) and Obakeng Musana (3) were laid to rest in Ramotse, in a sombre ceremony.
According to Temba police spokesperson, Constable Herman
Moremi, the three boys went missing on 31 December after allegedly being
taken by their mother’s boyfriend.
He allegedly told her she was seeing them “for the last time”.
Moremi said that the remains of the children were found by a
passerby at Bosplaas West, near Temba. Their bodies were burned beyond
recognition.
“The person was observing a burnt car near a bush and noticed there were corpses inside,” said Moremi.
Family spokesperson, Phillip Mosana, said the family had accepted the incident.
An emotional Marokolong Primary School principal, Rahab Madumo, said Bogosi was a well-behaved boy who had respect for others.
“He was a very quiet child with a good academic record. He took part in music and was very committed to his school work,” he said.
A neighbour Maggie Motshwene said: “I knew Bogosi more than the other two … he was a respectful child.”

Tommy was transported to a hospital where he got checked out. He later shared a photo of his swollen lip and said his son with Pamela Anderson, 21-year-old Brandon Lee, was responsible for it.
He wrote: "My heart is broken. You can give your kids everything they could ever want in their entire lives and they can still turn against you."

Also, on Monday Tommy took a shot at Pamela's recent interview with Piers Morgan where she talked about Tommy abusing her.
Reacting to the interview, Tommy said: "Think she'd find something new to discuss instead of rehashing old s**t."
