Man gives his wife his kidney in celebration of their 23rd wedding anniversary

A husband celebrating his 23rd wedding anniversary gave his wife a life-saving gift: a kidney. With it, Cesar Calle gave his wife Monica a life free of painful dialysis treatment, which she needed for polycystic kidney disease she had been fighting for a decade, the Sun Sentinel reported.

The couple spoke about the five-hour surgery during a press conference from Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, Fla., where the surgery was performed on Feb. 19. “I feel like a million dollars,” Monica said, three weeks after the transplant.

“And I think I look like a million bucks, compared to before.” Selflessly, her husband, Cesar, offered to donate one of his kidney's to his wife, and in December the couple got word that he was a match.  Dr. Juan Arenas, a surgeon and chief of the hospital’s Memorial Transplant Institute said, “To find a match between spouses is very unusual but very lucky for us to be able to find that.”

According to the Sun Sentinel, Cesar said, “For me to do this, it was big. I was shocked. I thought it’s not real, this is not happening.” As she celebrates her wedding anniversary, Monica reflected, “Little did we know 23 years ago that this was going to be the angel to save my life. I felt like I just won the lottery.

I started dreaming of what my future would look like, not having to do dialysis. The fact that I can actually travel now and not worry about carrying boxes with me or supplies, or worry if it’s gonna get lost. I felt so free.”

30-year-old Emily Javier suspected her boyfriend Alex Lovell was cheating on her so she bought a Samurai sword and tried to kill him at night.
Luckily, Lovell was able to defend himself after she had hacked him a few times, and he called for help.

With her boyfriend finally asleep, Emily Javier reached for the samurai sword she had secretly taped earlier to the side of the bed.
According to an affidavit filed by police, the room was dark, and she sparked her phone to see better. To aim better.
Below snoozed Alex Lovell. He played too many videos games, Javier would later explain to the police, and now he was cheating on her, she claimed. She knew the signs. Tinder on his phone. Scratches across his back. A girl’s hair in their shower drain. In the weak phone glow, Javier allegedly started hacking.
Lovell woke to his girlfriend of two years attacking him with a sword, police say. Survival instincts — mainly martial arts training and all the kung fu films he had watched — clicked in.

“I was able to wing chun my way to survival,” he told the Oregonian/OregonLive in an interview this week over Facebook messenger, referring to a Chinese martial art. He eventually wrapped Javier in a bear hug. “I saw the look in her eyes, and it scared the living poop out of me,” he told the news outlet. “I told her I loved her, and she was killing me. She needed to call police, or I was going to die.”
Javier broke off the attack and made the call, frantically telling a 911 operator she had stabbed her boyfriend and she thought he was dead. “You used a sword?” the operator asked.
When police did arrive at the scene on March 3, they found Lovell curled up in the blood-spattered bedroom, according to the probable cause affidavit filed by police in Camas, a Washington state town northeast of Portland, Ore. Remarkably, he survived the attack despite serious injuries. Lovell almost lost the index, middle and ring fingers on his hand. But in interviews this week, the competitive gamer sounded happy to be alive.

“I was just so proud for beating this samurai wannabe crazy lady with hate in her heart,” the 29-year-old told the Oregonian/OregonLive. “I’ve been preparing my whole life for something like this.”
Javier — who pleaded not guilty this week to first-degree attempted murder, according to the Columbian — had also allegedly been preparing.
Alex Lovell — known as “Biggie” in his local gamer scene — is an avid player of “PlayerUnknown’s Battleground,” a multiplayer online fighting game. As he told the Oregonian/OregonLive, Lovell has been recently logging 12 to 13 hours a day playing the game. The regimen also required “exercises for his hands, wrists and shoulders and also practicing mouse moves and techniques to maximize performance,” the paper reported.
“I wasn’t a sweaty nerd, more of an Ethlete,” Lovell told the Oregonian/OregonLive.
In an interview with police after the attack, Javier, 30, admitted she was frustrated with her boyfriend for staying glued to his game. Then, a week before the violent incident, Javier said she had discovered Lovell was unfaithful. According to the affidavit, she told police she discovered Tinder, the dating app, on his phone. She also noticed scratches on his back, possibly from a romantic encounter. She found red hair in the shower drain — her own hair was dyed green.
She did not confront her boyfriend. In the past, he had just denied such accusations. This time Javier went to the mall and bought a samurai sword. “I thought, I was gonna stab him while he was sleeping,” she told police.
The relationship reached a crisis point on March 2. According to the police affidavit, Lovell came home but ignored his girlfriend. She allegedly decided to go through with the attack, taping the sword and two knives to the bed. Javier also told police she hid Lovell’s phone so he could not call for help. When Lovell finally went to sleep, she reached for the sword.
In an interview with the Columbian this week, Lovell denied he was unfaithful. “I barely had time to hang out with my girlfriend, let alone another girl,” he told the paper. “I didn’t see it coming, but it makes sense that it happened. She obviously didn’t want anyone else to have me, so — samurai sword.”

Doctors were able to reattach Lovell’s fingers where they were nearly hacked off at the base. He also suffered wounds to his feet, legs, torso, neck and head. His right arm is in a cast. Members of the local gaming scene set up a GoFundMe page for his medical bills. The fund is just $2,000 shy of its $10,000 goal after 10 days.
Javier remains in custody. Her attorney did not return an email for comment.
“The feeling I had when I won the fight with my bare hands is just absolutely the best feeling,” Lovell boasted this week from the hospital. “I’ve played all the sports, won big games, landed some decent tricks on my snowboard. This was better.”

Imo police arrest couple for allegedly killing their daughter and lacing her with a rope to fake suicide

The Imo state police command have arrested a couple, Damian and Prisca David, both from Taraba State, over the controversial death of 13-year-old girl, Veronica David, who is said to be a stepdaughter to Prisca.

Punch reports that the couple who both serve as secuity guards to businessman, Johnbosco Ozugbo, have been accused of repeatedly subjecting the deceased  to physical abuse. Last Friday March 16th, the couple beat the girl until she slumped. When they confirmed she was dead, they called one John, an accomplice, to buy rope so they can fake that the deceased committed suicide. However, their neighbors that suspected foul play contacted the police who immediately stormed their home and arrested them.

''The couple are security guards at Johnbosco Ozugbo’s house at Ogwuaga Abba. They were living with their stepdaughter until the incident. They had always maltreated the poor girl. They were beating her that Friday morning as usual when she slumped and died. They then called one John to help them to tie a rope around the girl’s neck for it to look as if the girl committed suicide. But neighbours who suspected foul play alerted the Police at Nwangele Divisional Police Headquarters. The couple were quickly arrested and the corpse retrieved. The third person was later arrested by the police.”a source said
Also speaking, the employer of the couple, Johnbosco Ozugbo, said
''My security guard called and informed me that his daughter had committed suicide and that he needed an advance salary to take her corpse to Taraba for burial. I was worried about how a 13-year-old girl would take her own life. On inquiry, I was told that his wife, Prisca, hit the girl with a plank on her head and that she died immediately. A boy in the compound told me that he saw the woman hit the girl with the plank. I quickly involved the Police and the couple was arrested. The boy who claimed to have seen the woman kill her own stepdaughter went with them to the Police station to put it in writing. The corpse is ready for autopsy. I will ensure that justice is served,”.
While confirming the report, the state Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike, said he had ordered the homicide section of the Command to take over the matter.

Kaduna state government to conduct competency test for secondary school teachers in the state

Following the huge revelation made after the competency test for primary school teachers were conducted in October last year, the Kaduna state government says it is planning on conducting a competency test for secondary school teachers in the state.

Recall that over 21, 000 pimary school teachers in the state failed the primary 4 set of questions given to them during their competency test conducted. The state government's decision to sack the incompetent teachers met stiff opposition by members of the Nigeria Labour Congress NLC and member of the opposition party in the state.

Governor Nasir El-Rufai via his official twitter handle, revealed that a competency test for secondary school teachers is underway. He also revealed that the state government has decided to pay urban teachers twenty seven and half percent higher than average civil servants and rural teachers thirty two and half percent higher to attract the best. 75-year-old popular evangelist, Prophet Samuel Abiara, set to remarry

75-year old popular evangelist and founder of Christ Apostolic (CAC) Worldwide, Prophet S. K. Abiara, will be getting married in a few days time.

Prophet Abiara who lost his 70-year old wife, Evangelist (Mrs) Christianah Abiara, in September last year, disclosed his plans to remarry at his retirement service held at All Saints’ Chapel, CAC General Secretariat, Bashorun, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Saturday March 17th.
Speaking at the service, the clergyman said his decision to remarry was in line with the provisions of the Bible.

“It’s a year and a half that my beloved wife, Christianah Aduke Abiara, went to be with the Lord. I missed her so much. A lot of people were wondering and asking questions about what I would do. I told them I was waiting on God, and that whatever He tells me, I would do. Well, by God’s grace, I will remarry in a few days’ time and you will be informed.” he said

66-year-old grandmother commits suicide in Anambra

A 66 year old grandmother has committed suicide in  Mgbakwu, Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State. The deceased simply identified as Uzoaku, was found hanging from a room in her bedroom yesterday March 17th.

The woman was said to have been cooking in her kitchen when she left her food and went into her kitchen to hang herself.

Residents of the community say the deceased had for many months complained about the inability of her two children, both graduates, to secure good jobs.
Younger brother of Uzoaku, Frederick Nwenu, however said she had no reason to kill herself. According to him

“My sister had no reason to do this, having trained her two children to university level. She has two children who are university graduates. The daughter is happily married with kids. So, she has no reason whatsoever to commit suicide.”

A neighbor of the deceased, Isaac Umeh, who spoke on the sad incident said

''”Nobody was around except her. The food she was cooking was still on fire when she suddenly abandoned it and rushed into the room where she used a rope to hang herself on a window protector. The whole thing is still a shock to us because nobody believed a woman of her age with grandchildren can take her own life that way.”

Meanwhile the corpse of the deceased has been deposited in the state morgue.

Unizik student, Ezekwe Jideofor, drowns during birthday celebration at a swimming pool

A Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) student of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State drowned inside a swimming pool during a birthday celebration on Saturday 17th March, 2018.

The sad incident occurred at Cosmila Hotel where It was gathered that the boy, identified as Ezekwe Jideofor John, who was celebrating the birthday of his course mate.
